Dear Friends of the Saint Helens Quartet,
Thank you for taking part in our programming over the last few years! We are thrilled to announce an exciting World Premiere event, debuting in January 2007 - a music-theatre piece about the life and music of the Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff.
In order to meet the challenges of this new endeavor, we are taking on the Quartet's first fundraising drive. Partner with us today to bring this World Premiere to Seattle audiences!
Earlier this year, the Saint Helens String Quartet was asked by the world - renowned theatre director Nick Schwartz-Hall to team up with him to tell Schulhoff's story in words and music. We have found significant inspiration along the way; Erwin Schulhoff's life ended tragically in a Nazi labor camp in 1943-his magnificent music all but forgotten by history. We believe that this production can help to amend that. We are proud to say that there is already interest in the production for performances in New York and Europe.
The quartet is producing the work locally as part of The Schulhoff Festival at Cornish College for the Arts, taking place January 18th-21st, and 26th-28th. Cornish support has been instrumental in the development of the project, offering us in-kind performance space and covering a large portion of the production costs. Further, their Department of Music has made a generous pledge: they will match all funds we generate through this drive for this project, up to $3,000!
There are several exciting benefits we'd like to offer our donors. First, the names of all donors will be featured not only in our Seattle program, but also in future programs in other locales. All donors of $500 or more will receive complimentary tickets to all events in the The Schulhoff Festival. And donors at the $1,000 level will receive a very special benefit: an hour of high-quality quartet music at the event of your choice from the Saint Helens Quartet.
We have partnered with The Shunpike, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, as our fiscal sponsor. This means your donation to the Saint Helens Quartet and The Shunpike will be tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donations can be made via check-please make payment to The Shunpike and include Saint Helens Quartet in the memo line-or at www.theShunpike.org/donate.
Thank you for supporting the Saint Helens Quartet this year!
Sincerely,
The Saint Helens String Quartet
